Today is the 50 year Anniversary of Earth Day! The birth of the modern environmental movement began and we continue to celebrate our planet. It has been estimated that Earth Day is celebrated by over a billion people worldwide, making it the one most widely celebrated secular holiday in the world.  Here are a few ways you can support and celebrate our planet on Earth Day during the Coronavirus pandemic.

1. Bake Cookies

Baking is a great way to get the family involved and a fun activity for everyone.  I found this great recipe online. Click here for the recipe.

2. Digital Earth Day Events

Earth Day goes digital in 2020. You can support Earth Day from the comfort of your home! Participating in a digital event will allow you to support Earth Day and we can continue to practice social distancing. Digital events are being held around the world.  To find a local, digital Earth Day event near you click here.

3. Recycling

I support my planet daily by recycling as much as possible.  When I dispose of something in my trash I check my local recycle guide to ensure it can be recycled. I'm a San Diego resident and follow the San Diego recycling guidelines.  Click here for a copy of San Diego's recycling guidelines.  I also included a copy of a generic recycling guide published by the Global Recycling Foundation.  Click here for the generic recycling guide.

4. Support Local San Diego Non Profits

Another great way to contribute to Earth Day is by supporting a local non profit during social distancing.  We have so many great non profit organizations focused on keeping San Diego clean which helps support our planet.

A few of my favorites!

I love a Clean San Diego

Sierra Club

Surfrider Foundation

5. Recycle and Reuse

Recycling is a great activity for Earth Day.  A great time to clean out your closet and donate to a charity in need! Here a few organizations accepting donations.

Salvation Army

Sharia's Closet

Father Joe's Village
