March means spring, and lots of wildflowers and local plants are in bloom. It's a great time to go hiking or visit a botanical garden. Check out these and more things to do in March. To learn more about the events click on the imagery to go directly to the event website. 

1. The Flower Fields

For more than sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch in Carlsbad, California, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May - literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, also is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in Southern California.

2.  SeaWorld's Seven Seas Craft Beer & Food Festival

Foodies and craft beer aficionados will love SeaWorld's Seven Seas Craft Beer & Food Festival, featuring craft beer from favorite local breweries, plus fresh international cuisine infused with local, sustainable ingredients and unique signature flavors from around the world.

3. Wildlife Explorers Basecamp

Welcome to four acres of wildlife adventure at the San Diego Zoo, all with one amazing goal: to encourage Wildlife Explorers to learn about nature, actively play, encounter new species, and develop empathy for wildlife.

4. Emperor Opening at SeaWorld

Emperor, the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in all of California, will open on March 12 —just in time for Spring Break. Get ready to plunge 90 degrees and soar up to 60 miles per hour through exhilarating loops on this exciting Emperor penguin-inspired adventure, feeling your feet dangle above the track on the state’s only floorless dive coaster!

5. Busker Fest 2022

San Diego's Seaport Village hosts the only Busker Festival in Southern California. We bring professionals from across the country to perform their bizarre talents from sword swallowing to knife throwing to pogo stick tricks and juggling on unicycles. Throughout the festival, some of the nation's top performers fill the bay front village drawing visitors to shop, dine and enjoy an entire day of one-of-a-kind entertainment.

6. 2022 IRISH 4 A DAY - St. Patrick's Day Party Hop!

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Annual IRISH 4 A DAY ~ San Diego’s #1 St. Patrick’s Day Party Hop on Friday, March 11, Saturday, March 12, and Thursday, March 17, 2022! Presented by the organizers of the sold-out San Diego Zombie Crawl and 15+ nightclubs and bars along the famous 5th Avenue, IRISH 4 A DAY is truly a one-of-a-kind celebration and unlike any other “pub crawls”! 7. San Diego Leprechaun Run

San Diego Leprechaun Run is BACK in Pacific Beach! We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the 4th Annual San Diego Leprechaun Run 5K & Kids 1K on Saturday, March 12th!

8. San Diego shamROCK

Grab your fellow leprechauns and don your green attire! Tradition returns as an authentic Irish celebration takes over the streets of San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter district.  Heading back to its roots, the 26th Annual ShamROCK provides a full lineup of the nation’s top Irish & Celtic Rock bands, iconic tribute performances, and Irish dancers galore!

9. 40th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival

The Annual San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade (largest Parade west of the Mississippi) will step off on Saturday, March 12th, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. on Fifth Avenue at Laurel Street as thousands of marchers and spectators gather to celebrate the Patron Saint of Ireland.  We have over 120 Parade entries. See Floats, High School Marching Bands, Police and Fire Department Units, Dancing Groups, Marching and Equestrian Units, Clowns, Dignitaries and Honorees, Representatives from Ireland, Antique Cars, Irish Setters and more.

10. NCAA® March Madness

NCAA® March Madness is coming to San Diego! Share the experience at the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship First/Second Rounds in Viejas Arena.

11. Sesame Place Grand Opening

Sesame Place San Diego will be the second theme park of its kind in the United States and the first on the West Coast-based on Sesame Street.

12. San Diego Theatre Week

San Diego Theatre Week is an exciting program of the San Diego Performing Arts League (SDPAL). The mission of San Diego Theatre Month is to highlight the variety and enhance the awareness of San Diego's diverse performing arts community. Participating performing arts groups will be offering a variety of special promotions during the month of March 2022. Tickets will be offered at $15, $30 and $45 levels

13. CRSSD Festival

CRSSD Festival is a two-day electronic music festival at the 12 acre San Diego Waterfront Park featuring three stages and 36+ performers. In addition to the music, the festival will offer craft beer, mixed drinks, food, and more.

14. 29th San Diego Latino Film Festival

The 29th San Diego Latino Film Festival (March 10-20, 2022) will feature virtual & drive-in film screenings, Q&As with filmmakers and special guests, a Sonido Latino concert, and an awards ceremony!


15. Cherry Blossom Festival

Along with lovely Cherry Blossoms, the 2022 festival includes a children's area with crafts, a beer and sake garden, and a tea and dessert garden. In addition, guests can watch daily live performances and shop from 20 different food and merchant vendors.

16. Circle of Art

Organizers select about 60 artists for the show each year, exhibiting quality paintings and artworks representing a variety of media including oil and watercolors, photography, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, weaving, and jewelry.

17. The Julian Daffodil Show

Visit Julian to marvel at Daffodils on display and have any questions about daffodils answered by National Daffodil Society experts. This event draws many entrants including a strong youth entrance. It will also feature Children's Art - Water Colors of Daffodils. Springtime is a lovely time to visit the beautiful town in the mountains of San Diego.

18. East Village Opening Day Block Party

“Root, root, root for the home team!” as attendees’ rock out to live band and DJ entertainment; and “swing batter, batter, swing!” as fans test their skills in the interactive game zone. Quench your thirst at the micro-brew beer garden featuring local craft beer, baseball-themed cocktails, and an adult-geared fun “activation zone”; while munching on the large varietal of local culinary delights from the food truck-lined streets.

19. Taste of Third

Get ready for the 26th annual Taste of Third! This year be prepared for a night of food, drink, and live music to help you keep the tempo as you stroll down the block enjoying the many flavors of Third Avenue.

20. San Diego Half Marathon & Padres 5K

Join us for the Annual San Diego Half Marathon & Padres 5K at Petco Park on Sunday, March 27, 2022. All races end with an epic finish inside the ballpark, and with three race options to choose from, there's something for the whole family: half marathon, 2-person half marathon relay or the Padres 5K.
