San Diego brings to mind spectacular beaches and great weather. But you may be surprised by how many more exciting things you can do in San Diego this month, if you know where to look! From food events and nightlife to 5k races and outdoor festivals, we’ve got your social calendar covered.  To learn more about the events click on the imagery to go directly to the event website. 

1. Gator By The Bay-Zydeco, Blues & Crawfish Festival

The spirit, sounds and flavor of Mardi Gras come alive at the largest and most-authentic Louisiana-themed music and food festival this side of the bayou. With everything from A to Zydeco, this 4-day, family-friendly cultural celebration takes place on picture-perfect San Diego Bay, featuring 100+ live musical acts & performances on 7 stages, wooden dance floors, shade, green grass and plenty of fun for the kids.

2.  Cinco de Mayo with Lila Downs

Known for her unique synthesis of Latin American folk, jazz fusion, and South American rhythms, GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winner Lila Downs is an internationally acclaimed singer and songwriter from Oaxaca, Mexico, whose compelling stage presence and poignant storytelling transcend all language barriers. Downs returns to La Jolla Music Society to kick-off your Cinco de Mayo celebrations at the Balboa Theatre.

3. City Ballet of San Diego's: Don Quixote

A lavish production based on Miguel de Cervantes epic novel. Follow the adventures of the errant knight, Don Quixote, and his squire, Sancho Panza. This three-act story ballet sensation with opulent scenery and costumes, complete with moving windmills, is family orientated and filled with humor and magic. City Ballet of San Diego presents the full-length production of Don Quixote by Resident Choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich – a lavish production based on Miguel de Cervantes epic novel, accompanied by The City Ballet Orchestra. Audiences can follow the adventures of the errant knight, Don Quixote, and his squire, Sancho Panza, on their travels to find the beautiful Dulcinea whom Don Quixote has only seen in his dreams. This three-act story ballet is family orientated and filled with humor and magic.

4. Cinco de Mayo Sunset Sail

Maritime Museum of San Diego hosts this special evening event to celebrate Cinco de Mayo Thursday, May 5th! This fun, new festive activity is staged aboard the San Salvador, a replica of Explorer Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo’s galleon, the first European to reach America’s West Coast in 1542.

5. The Okee Dokee Brothers

This American bluegrass/American roots GRAMMY award-winning duo has put their passion for the outdoors at the heart of their children’s music. A five-time Parent’s Choice Award winner, they have garnered praise from the likes of NPR’s All Things Considered and USA Today, and have been called “two of family music’s best songwriters.”

6. Concert with Tom Rigney, Flambeau & Michael Doucet

The evening features two dance floors, comfortable seating and an upgraded table service option. Three specially selected food vendors will offer up tasty creole dishes and beverages, hot and cold for sale. Back by popular demand, we will be presenting this intimate concert for the sixth year in a row. Featuring Tom Rigney & Flambeau with Michael Doucet, Gino & The Lone Gunmen & The Clinton Davis String Band.

7. Children's Day

Join JFG to celebrate Children's Day on May 5th! All of the activities, vendors and performances will take place inside the garden’s gates. We invite guests to make special koinobori, play games, and eat kashiwamochi. Performances will run throughout the day.

8. Julian Woman's Club Wildflower Show

The Julian Wildflower Show has been continuous since 1926, except for 3 years during World War II and in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We are back.

9. Oceanside Harbor Wine Cruise

Join us for a 90-minute evening cruise aboard the luxurious Oceanside Adventures Catamaran through beautiful Oceanside Harbor. The cruise includes appetizer platter and 3 wine tastes from Beach House Winery. This special event is held the first Saturday of each month (excluding Dec & Jan).

10. Mother's Day Brunch Cruises

it back and celebrate Mother's Day with a relaxing brunch cruise on the Big Bay in America's finest city. 11. Pure Project Label Art Contest

Pure Project is excited to organize and host our first-ever label art contest! The contest will culminate in an exhibit held at the Pure Project Balboa Park Biergarten.

12. The Flower Fields

For more than sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch in Carlsbad, California, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May - literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, also is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in Southern California.

13. North Park Music Fest

This two day San Diego Music Festival will highlight San Diego’s best in local music, unique food vendors, live art, craft beer, and spirits.


14. A.R. Valentien Signature Wine Series

Set on A.R. Valentien's relaxing al fresco terrace, experience an exquisite multi-course meal paired with acclaimed wines from Darioush Estates. Executive Chef Kelli Crosson and Advanced Sommelier Paul Krikorian joins forces with special guest Dan de Polo, President of Darioush Estates for this curated communal meal of seasonal bounty with some of California’s most notable wines.

15. San Diego International ShortsFest

Join us May 20-22 for the 2nd Annual Intl ShortsFest, celebrating the art of cinematic storytelling with films less than 30 minutes in length.

16. Who Dunnit? Gaslamp Murder Mystery Adventure

Who Dunnit? Gaslamp is a scavenger hunt-style Murder Mystery Adventure that lasts approximately 2 hours. During the tour, you will visit several of the Gaslamp Quarter's most popular destinations while solving a murder mystery.

17. Electric Bike Tours - Hidden Gems in San Diego

At long last! There’s now a way to enjoy San Diego’s scenic views easily and effortlessly. Instead of struggling up those hills on a road bike, maybe it’s time you try out our new Electric Bikes?

18. Music at the Maritime Featuring Hausmann Quartet

The Hausmann Quartet and Maritime Museum of San Diego are excited to partner to present the sixth season of Haydn Voyages: Music at the Maritime, a quarterly concert series performed aboard one of the Museum’s ten historic world-class vessels, the 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley that operated for 60 years on San Francisco Bay. Enjoy world-class performances from San Diego’s only floating concert hall!

19. Historic Home Tour 2022

Join us in celebrating, and return to explore the historic homes of charming Coronado Island while supporting community history! We invite you to support the community you love, its history, and the Coronado Historical Association with someone special this Mother's Day. CHA Members receive first access to tickets. General Admission Tickets go on sale on April 11, 2022.

20. An Evening with Groucho at North Coast Rep

If you are a country music fan, then Stagecoach is a festival that you won't want to miss. This 3-day outdoor music festival will be filled with live performances from about 50 top country singers. The festival will also feature a dance hall, games, guy Fieri's Stagecoach Smokehouse BBQ, restaurants, and bars.
